Biography

Tony Kelly is an actor, comedian, writer, producer and director from Waterford, Ireland. Tony attended the New York Film Academy in 2009 and graduated from the Screenwriting Programme. He broke into the comedy business in NYC after being discovered by producer Steve Rosenfield after his short film "I Am Jeff Shanagarry" was shown to him. Tony then started to perform in the legendary comedy clubs of the City. Tony's debut comedy album PS I Hate You (recorded in the Forum, Waterford and toured over the US, Canada, Ireland and Europe) was released in 2012.

 

After making his feature film acting debut while still in film school alongside Police Academy star, Steve Guttenberg, Tony's acting career took a front seat a few years later and his credits in film now include the lead role in 2017 Irish production "Writing Home", US/Canada independent features "Victory" and "Freedom" and the a turn as the lead antagonist in the Irish feature film "The Tale of Billy O'C". Television credits include ITV/BBC America's "Primeval", Netflix's "The Alienist" and the upcoming mini series "Ronnie", which was also directed by, co-written and co-created by Tony also.

 

Tony is most well known for his sitcom "The Hurler" and it's subsequent spin offs. The series has won a slew of awards worldwide and was created by, written by and starring Tony as the hapless and infamous Gar Campion.

 

In recent years Tony has moved into direction, adding another string to his bow. His debut short "Daddy Issues?" was screened at festivals worldwide, including it's Irish premiere at the 2019 Galway Film Fleadh and it's festival bow at the 2021 Dublin Underground Cinema Film Festival and has picked up awards such as "Best Short Film" at the 2019 Sunset Film Festival in Los Angeles and "Best Director" at the 2021 Vesuvius International Film Festival. Tony is currently directing the mini series "Ronnie" and in pre production on his debut feature film as well as a soon to be released new short film, "The Martial Art of Forgiveness" with frequent collaborators, Dicemen Productions out of Kilkenny.
